In the spirit

WHY?

When I read the Bible, it's not hard to notice the huge difference between the life Jesus lived and my own yet Jesus said "Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." John 14:12. This leaves me with three choices.

1. Create a complicated theological explanation of why this  and other similar verses don't apply to me specifically.

2. Passively accept that's just the way it is.

3. Believe the passage to be true and seek the Holy Spirit and scripture for wisdom on what needs to change in my life in order for this to become a reality.

Reading the Word leaves me with a hunger for Jesus to receive all that He paid for on the cross. That in and through my life He will receive the Glory for the transformation of lives from darkness to light, from death to life.

​

As well as showing the love of the Father in practical deeds we also have a spiritual responsibility; for ourselves, our family, our town, our nation. Sadly this side has been neglected for too long and has left a spiritual vacuum open for the New Age movement to step into. Living in and understanding the spiritual realm should be as normal to us as is living in our physical homes of bricks and mortar. It's in the spirit we are called to worship, (John 4:24) fight, (Eph 6:10) pray,(Eph 6:18) and gain revelation (as was true for the author of Hebrews and John's book of Revelations).

WHAT?

The purpose of the hub is for those who are hungry for more of the Holy Spirit to come together and learn, being "as iron sharpens iron" for each other. To be a place we can learn together, practice, stretch our wings, be challenged by the gifting of others and find accountability for the call God has given us each.The specific mandate God has given me is to build and establish a beach head of the Kingdom of God, in Caernarfon, for being led by the Holy Spirit and living in the spirit, being grounded in truth, passion and biblical understanding.

HOW?

In John 10 we read that Jesus said His sheep would know His voice. Jesus expects us to recognise when He is speaking to us, leading us. This is the starting point to each of our spiritual journeys. We heard the truth of His life, death and resurrection. We heard the conviction of the Holy Spirit to repent and receive Jesus as saviour. As we read the Bible we hear Holy Spirit teaching us, rebuking us, challenging us.  The gifts of the spirit mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12 :4-11, in particular words of knowledge, wisdom and prophecy are all an extension of this. A leaning closer to the whispers of the Holy Spirit until we are accustomed to hearing His voice whenever He speaks, wherever we are. Once we are used to hearing, we need to  practise and grow in wisdom, for the application and delivery of these precious gifts, learning how to live in the fellowship  of the Holy Spirit. In our weekly time together, we practice listening then share what we hear individually so that it can be weighed as a group. There's usually something that the Holy Spirit shows us that we can pray further in to, which brings freedom and deliverance. We practice hearing and giving words of knowledge, wisdom and prophecy on each other. Giving honest feedback to each other means we grow in skill and confidence. This does require a commitment to attend regularly, as feedback from someone who is investing in you, and you in them, cuts and heals! I encourage you to come for a taster, then if you would like to join, ask that you commit to six weeks at a time.  (There is no fee)

We may have little to offer Jesus, but as we lay down any pride of needing to be good at everything and bring our "loaves and fishes" as an offering I believe God will take it, multiply it and use it in ways we could never imagine.

WHEN & WHERE?

We meet most Wednesday evenings 7.30 - 9. Most of these are on Zoom, but we do aim to have an in person catch up every six week's or so, primarily to worship together.

Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

​

2 Corinthians 3:4-18 We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God.  He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life.

The old way, with laws etched in stone, led to death, though it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses’ face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away. Shouldn’t we expect far greater glory under the new way, now that the Holy Spirit is giving life? If the old way, which brings condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new way, which makes us right with God!  In fact, that first glory was not glorious at all compared with the overwhelming glory of the new way. So if the old way, which has been replaced, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new, which remains forever!

 Since this new way gives us such confidence, we can be very bold. We are not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so the people of Israel would not see the glory, even though it was destined to fade away. But the people’s minds were hardened, and to this day whenever the old covenant is being read, the same veil covers their minds so they cannot understand the truth. And this veil can be removed only by believing in Christ. Yes, even today when they read Moses’ writings, their hearts are covered with that veil, and they do not understand.

But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.
